Obituary

Daniel J. Binsack,age 61, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the University Hospital (Madison Wi.).

Dan was born March 22, 1948, in Milwaukee,to parents George and Charlotte Binsack. After graduating from high school in Milwaukee, he attended the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee for one year before deciding to enlist into the U.S. Army during Vietnam in 1968.

In October 1991, Dan retired from the military as a Master sergeant, though had held the position of 1st Sgt while at the DLI San Francisco. He spent many years at Field Station Berlin, which was a military intelligence outpost. He was an instructor at the Defense Language Institute in San Francisco, where he taught German from 1985-1988.While in the military, Dan' s two true loves were being an instructor and the bond he shared with the N.C.O. cadre at Field Station Berlin and the D.L.I.

Dan was also passionate about being a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He truly enjoyed the fraternal bond he shared with his fellow Knights of Columbus members. Dan was also a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

He is survived by his son, Andrew D. Binsack of Madison; daughters, Marina (John) of Berkeley, Calif. and Emily and Claire Binsack, both of Madison; brother, David (Mary) Binsack, of Rhode Island; ex-wife, Mary Filippou of San Francisco, Calif.; and other cherished family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1,2009, at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison,with a visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Monsignor Donn Heiar will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Madison.
